Reproductive Health Information Online

As should be clear by now from the discussions in class, finding information online is not a straightforward proposition, especially when it comes to politically charged health issues such as reproductive health. Harkening back to a day when "Operation Rescue" operated storefronts that posed as "women's health clinics," The Rosetta Foundation's "TeenBreaks.com" is a front for pro-life advocates. They are using the website to push forward a claim for something called "post-abortion syndrome," which is not a clinically recognized diagnosis, but rather, an insidious attempt to question women's right to choose.

And, this has real life consequences for us here in New York City, as the abortion opponents gear up their fight nationwide and the city becomes a refuge on a kind of underground railroad for women seeking safe, legal procedures.

Into this fraught online (and offline) environment, comes this breath of fresh air: RHReality Check, a blog and website devoted to fighting the agains the disinformation around reproductive health. Via Jeanne Flavin, Fordham University.

With the current political environment threatening Roe v. Wade, I am proud to know that I live in a city that still believes in choice. I was shocked and saddened when South Dakota made abortion illegal. I am also very worried and concerned for where we are headed in terms of civil and human rights in a country that was founded based on freedom.

i do believe that it is a front and at the same time they are allowing young girls to keep their pregnancy from their parents/guardians. Therefore, withou consent these young girls can use morning after pill. This would only allow more unwanted pregnancies and a higher risk for STD, HIV/AIDS.

If you could not tell, I am totally against abortion unless it directly affects the mother's life.

I understand your stance of being totally against abortion. However, whatever your personal feelings are about the issue, I think it is imperative to allow women to have a choice. That is what freedom is about.

Having access to safe, legal procedures as well as alternative methods like adoption are all important.Without these organizations, women of all age groups may gravely risk their health by obtaining unsafe and illegal procedures. This reminds me of how much more services are available in New York compared to other states.

I agree with k.joseph on this issue. You are comparing New York to other states, how about to other countries? Some of them still do not offer Methotrexate (MTX) as an option, they only are able to performe microabortion; and I am not talking about developing countries, I am talking about Europe.
